Helpfull Suggestions

At, KNO-BLL Heating & Air, Inc., we feel it is our duty to inform and/or educate the public. Listed below are, what we feel, the most important things you should know.

Filters

I cannot stress enough, how important it is to change the filter(s) regularly.

  •     Filters collect and remove dust and other materials from the air that you breathe in your home and prevent this material from getting to the coil. As the filter collects this unwanted material they begin to get clogged, causing the efficiency of the system and your comfort to diminish. Clogged filters can put an unneccessary strain on your system that can lead to system failure.
General

Use a LICENSED HVAC contractor to perform maintenance, repairs, replacement and/or installation. You can check the license status by going to: www.llr.state.sc.us.

    Unlicensed contractors tend to

  • Not have sufficient liability insurance
  • Not have worker comp. insurance
  • Provide substandard work
  • Not get permits
  • Submit "low ball" bids to get the job (Please read the first 4 again)
  • Not be found or return when system doesn't work properly
  • Cost you more money in the long run

When having your system replaced or installed, be sure the contractor does an "ACCA" approved load calculation on your home according to the principles in manual J. If your contractor uses rule of thumb or what is already in place to determine the system you need, "GET ANOTHER CONTRACTOR".

  •     If you are getting bids, don't let other contractors use load calculations and/or bids from other contractors. Let each contractor do his/her own calculations and bid.

If you have a split system, don't let your contractor mismatch the equipment (especially; old & new, refrigerant types or different manufactures). 13 seer is now the minimum energy usage efficiency rating. The different brand manufactures have achieved their higher seer ratings in different ways.
Also in 2010 R-410A will be the only refigerant allowed in the manufacture of new equipment. This equipment is NOT compatable with R-22 equipment.

  •    The only way to determine if equipment is compatible, is to have your contractor provide you with an "ARI" certificate of a matched system. You can obtain this by going to: www.aridirectory.org/ari/unitary.html.

Please contact us if you have problems with this site.

  •   If your contractor won't provide you with this certificate, "GET ANOTHER CONTRACTOR".
